While visiting your horse on the farm, we most commonly utilize digital radiography (x-rays) and ultrasonography (ultrasound) as our main imaging modalities.  Digital radiography is most often used to assess bone abnormalities and may be recommended to check for fractures, developmental issues in the joints (OCD fragments, cysts), arthritic changes or even dental and sinus abnormalities. 

Ultrasound is used to assess the intricate soft tissues of the body and may help to identify tendon, muscle or joint injuries.  Additionally, ultrasound is commonly used to help guide treatment into specific locations (“ultrasound guided injections”) to ensure accurate placement of medications such as within a soft tissue lesion, sacroiliac or cervical joints.
