Lameness & Poor Performance Evaluations
Lameness and poor performance evaluations may involve examining a horse that is showing an acute “head bobbing” lameness or a more subtle abnormality that is only seen under saddle. We also know there may be more reasons your horse is not performing to their full potential even while sound.

When investigating a lame or underperforming horse, we utilize a combination of palpation and static examination in addition to observing the horse in motion, either on the lunge line or under saddle followed by flexion testing.

Following this exam, some options include regional anesthesia ("nerve blocking") to localize the source of lameness and/or imaging (digital radiography, ultrasonography) to further evaluate the area of interest.

Pending these findings, we will discuss a variety of different treatment options for your horse or referral for more advanced imaging (CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy).
